Most people think hypermobility is just about flexible joints But if you have hEDS or HSD, it can come with dysautonomia which makes your nervous system work overtime just to keep your body regulated That can show up as dizziness, fatigue, racing heart, or feeling wired and overwhelmed for no reason Hypermobility also causes your muscles and nervous system to have to do extra work to keep everything in place Your body isn’t broken. It’s over functioning. Stop pushing through and start working with your body instead of against it Comment “SYSTEM” for my free nervous system regulation toolkit :) [not medical advice] #hypermobility #heds #autonomicnervoussystem #dysautonomia #nervoussystemhealing

WHY these things may correlate with being hypermobile 🤸‍♀️ 🤕 Always getting hurt in the most random ways: extra joint laxity can make even walking down the stairs feel like an extreme sport, and make it far easier to get injured doing “normal” activities 🚶‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ Running into things… constantly: Many people with hypermobility and connective tissue disorders have impared proprioception, making it harder for us to tell where our bodies are in space 🥴 🫣 Chronically tight upper traps: this is an incredibly common area of tightness for bendy folks, due to the muscles being forced to compensate for lax joints in the area 😵‍💫 Getting dizzy + your heart racing when you stand up: potentially linked to dysautonomia such as POTS, a very common comorbidity with things like hEDS (Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Sydrome) and HSD (Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder) I honestly could make SO many parts to this 🥴🫣 Which ones do you relate to? What would you add to this list? Lmk in the comments 👇 #heds #hsd #potsie #hypermobility

Hypermobility is having joints that have a greater than normal range of motion. And most people think being hypermobile is all about being bendy. But, the truth is that hypermobility is so much more than just being bendy. Hypermobility can cause joint instability, pain, discomfort, clumsiness, and more. (There are many conditions that can cause joint hypermobility.) Love you all. #Hypermobility #Bendy

I really thought everyone’s elbows did this. Like… this wasn’t a talent?? Why did nobody tell me I wasn’t “double jointed”… I was just bendy n slightly unhinged 🫣 Turns out when your joints are this loose, your nervous system is like Ma’am. We are not stable. So it tightens EVERYTHING. Which explains why I felt: ✔ tight ✔ anxious ✔ overstimulated ✔ wired but tired All while casually doing elbow circus tricks. Cute trick. Unregulated nervous system. Nobody talks about how hypermobile girls are out here looking flexible but living in low key fight or flight. I don’t stretch more now. I regulate more. That’s why I use my vagus nerve drops daily. Because when my body feels safe, it stops gripping like it’s bracing for impact 24 7. If your elbows do this too… and you feel a little spicy inside for no reason… Comment DROPS n I’ll tell u what helped me calm it down 💙 #hypermobility #doublejointed #nervoussystem #wiredandtired #womanover40

If only it ended at party tricks & flexibility… 😅 Hypermobility conditions like hEDS & HSD affect your connective tissue, which is found throughout the entire body, head to toe. Therefore, hEDS/HSD impact just about every system in the body and cause symptoms you wouldn’t know were related, unless you understood the bigger picture. hEDS & HSD are far more complex than just “bendy joints.” This video is just a snapshot of what people with connective tissue disorders go through. From chronic pain to GI issues and migraines, the symptom spectrum is broad and impacts everyone a little differently. However, some things ring true for almost all of us despite the variety in symptoms - 1. most of us are out here trying our damn best to survive. 2. Many of us are high achievers who don’t want to slow down but are forced to. 3. A lot of us have been dismissed by the medical system for years (if not decades) and have had to take our care into our own hands. I’m part of this club, and I treat patients in this club every single week. They are some of the strongest, most resilient people I know. And I’m honored to be a part of their journey. 🦓 If you are hypermobile and can relate, follow @nicolepelvicot and @intuitivetherapiespelvichealth for more education on managing EDS & co. Or if you know someone who is hypermobile and seeking to understand what’s going on in their body, send them this post! The more we continue to raise awareness and share our voices, the more we will be HEARD. 🤗 #hypermobility #ehlersdanlossyndrome #edsawareness #chronicillnessawareness #POTS

Symptomatic hypermobility is often called an invisible illness. But when you know what to look for, the hypermobility part actually leaves a lot of visible clues. 👉 I just sent a deep dive with more info on this to everyone on the waitlist for the spring round of my Ground Control program (intro to stability and pain management for hypermobility). 👉Comment or DM ShortFoot to add yourself to the Ground Control waitlist and get this helpful email, along with other pre-school education I’m sending out to this waitlist over the next few weeks. No obligation (seriously!). Just more helpful info 🦓 Many hypermobile humans have a flexible flat foot. That can show up as a callus on the big toe like I have here. A callus there can mean other things too. But it should be a cue to look closer at foot mobility, because excessive pronation from lax ligaments is common in hypermobile bodies. When the foot is very flexible, it’s easy to just hang out on passive structures instead of using that motion like the quick spring it’s meant to be. And if strength up the entire chain isn’t there to support that mobility, problems can build. Supportive shoes or an arch support can absolutely help. But improving strength and control of the foot is just as important. Also important: feet are supposed to pronate. A rigid arch all the time isn’t ideal either. And some people have a rigid flat foot that’s stuck in pronation, which is a different issue entirely. Yes, it’s nuanced! But little signs like this are clues worth paying attention to. If you want to go deeper, I just sent an email to my Ground Control waitlist with more, and sharing two more of my favorite hypermobile foot exercises! 👉Comment or DM ShortFoot to add yourself to the Ground Control waitlist and get this helpful email!! On this waitlist you’ll also get other pre-school education I’m sending out over the next few weeks. No obligation. Just more helpful info 🦓 #EhlersDanlosSyndrome #hEDS #EDS #hypermobility

Welcome to part 5 of my series where I show how different types of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome present in each body system! Today’s video is on the hands. People often don’t know much about the hands in EDS other than arachnodactyly, so hopefully you can learn something new! As always, this is for educational purposes only. This is not meant for self-diagnosis. Additionally, these features can show up in types of EDS not listed. The ones I listed are just from studies or the @ehlers.danlos website. There’s a lot of overlap between the types! #raredisease #ehlersdanlossyndrome #classicallikeehlersdanlossyndrome #hypermobileehlersdanlossyndrome #hypermobility
