Brendan explains that instead of avoiding the spine, the goal is to gradually build strength and control through structured training. The process starts with simple isometric holds on a 45 - degree back extension. These holds help the muscles around the spine learn to contract and stabilize without excessive movement. Once control improves, the progression moves into single-leg holds. This step introduces more demand on the smaller stabilizing muscles that support each segment of the spine. From there, partial repetitions are added to build strength through controlled motion. The focus remains on maintaining a stable and neutral position. The final stage is full range repetitions, where the spine moves through its complete range while maintaining control and tension. This progression builds strength gradually and helps develop long-term resilience in the spine.
