STRICT PULL-UP DRILLS 💪🏽 . Strict Pull-Ups require a significant amount of upper body strength. Give these exercises a try to work towards getting your first or improving the ones you already have 😊 . EXERCISES: 1. SCAP PULL-UPS - this activates our scapular muscles, which gives us a stable base to utilize the rest of our upper body muscles correctly 2. TOP OF PULL-UP HOLD - hold as long as you can; accumulating 1-2 min is a great goal 3. SLOW ECCENTRIC LOWER - eccentric strength is a great tool for strength development; lower as slowly as possible (shoot for 5-10+ sec for 8-10 repetitions) 4. BANDED PULL-UPS - start with as many bands as you need and slowly reduce as it gets easier. Accumulate 30-50 repetitions 3. JUMPING PULL-UPS - goal is to jump as little as needed to complete the rep. More pull up tips here 👇🏻 If you are trying to get your first pull up, did you know that pull ups are more of a back exercise than a measure of arm strength? When I started trying for my first 1 to 2 pull ups, I thought I had to have strong arms. But what you really need is a strong back and strong grip! (And yes, strong arms do help!) Here’s what I did to go from 0 to 10 pull ups in 6 months of work: 1️⃣ Lat-focused and pull up-specific movements. I’ve done a lot of lat pull downs, dumbbell rows, negative pull ups (jump up to the top of your pull up position and then slowly lower down), band-assisted pull ups, and scap pull ups. I’ve also worked on my grip strength with dead hangs, and farmer’s carries. 2️⃣ Progressive overload strength training. I tracked my reps, sets, and weights for every single lift. I didn’t wing it and didn’t show up to the gym without a plan. 3️⃣ Fueling my body properly, tracking macros, and eating enough protein to support muscle growth. (I’m currently eating approx. 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight daily.) #pullups #pulluptips
